Maïté (she/her) is a white, cisgendered, queer student counsellor at Collective Healing. She is a recent immigrant and settler on the shared, unceded lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

Maïté’s counselling style is deeply humanistic and strengths-based. She believes in people’s innate capacity to heal, and hopes to help clients connect to their strengths and inner wisdom. She is committed to building a safe space for clients first and foremost through collaboration. She does this through an embodied presence, a curious ear, and, when called for, a touch of humour. Maïté works with individuals navigating life transitions, relationships, trauma, and identity. When working with couples, Maïté focuses on co-creating safety and increasing emotional literacy. Maïté is trained in various somatic disciplines and offers invitations to explore body-based practices. Her work centres on safely increasing clients’ mind-body awareness for an integrative approach to wellness.

Maïté was born in France and grew up in a diverse school environment in Singapore. She later studied in the Netherlands and Australia, and had the privilege of experiencing multiple cultures and peoples along the way. These experiences have equipped Maïté with a sense of openness, humility, and a grounded understanding of systems of oppression. She aims to weave these traits into her counselling by creating culturally safe spaces founded on respect and self-determination.

Her counselling approach is informed by her lived experiences with immigration, cultural identity exploration, depression, anxiety, and substance use. As an outreach worker on the downtown East side of Vancouver, Maïté has a well of humbling experiences that have anchored her commitment to learning as well as unlearning. She commits to a decolonising and trauma-informed approach with a strong focus on promoting clients’ autonomy and agency in their lives. As a firm believer in the healing power of community, she also strives to help clients increase their sense of connection to others.

Maïté offers counselling services in English and French.
